Surgery
Today was probably the most stressful, scary & upsetting day of our life. Davey had his first hand surgery to correct his 3rd & 4th digits on his right hand; for those who don't know he has Syndactyly on both his hands. The surgery was scheduled for first thing this morning, which meant Davey had to fast from Midnight until the surgery. Ever try not giving a Baby a bottle?...yeah it sucks. The surgery lasted about 2 1/2 hours. It took longer than anticipated as the top bones in his fingers were fused together. They also had to take a skin graft from his groin area to add skin to the separated area. So he is sore there too :( The first hour or so afterwards he was very groggy from the anesthesia. He was also in some pretty hearty pain. Overall the nurses said he did very well, and all his reactions were normal. We ended up being discharged at 2:30pm; he slept most of the afternoon and has been eating & drinking fine. The pain comes and goes but we are able to give him some Tylenol w/Codeine to help ease it. Next Tuesday we visit the Dr. to have the dressings changed, then the following week to have the stitches removed. So hopefully he will be in great shape for his birthday. Till then we have to take it one day at a time. All I can say is he is a very tough kid and will push through this.
